Outings
Policy statement

Children benefit from being taken out of the setting to go on visits or trips to local parks or other suitable venues for activities which enhance their learning experiences. Some settings do not have direct access to outdoor provision on their premises and will need to take children out daily. Staff in our setting ensure that there are procedures to keep children safe on outings; all staff and volunteers are aware of and follow the procedures below.

It is not intended to arrange outings that would require using private transport.
It is intended that all outings planned will be reliant on having enough adults to give a ratio of 1:3 children. However we will always endeavour to attain the ratio of 1:2 children.
A prior visit to the location by a member of staff will be endeavoured to enable the safest route to be planned taking note of road crossings and any road works etc.
There will be a member of staff trained in first aid on each visit.
The children will be allocated to a particular adult for the duration of the outing
Head counts will be taken regularly and at changes in activity.
An 'outing kit' will be taken and the responsibility of the most senior member of staff present .
Included in the kit will be;
Register of the children present.
Medical kit
Important phone numbers
Mobile phone
Permission from parents will be confirmed before the outing takes place. Original permission from parents/carers is included on the registration forms.
All other policies will be upheld whilst on the outing.
